Surya Samudra Beach Garden is situated on low cliffs, flanked on either side by a beach and it lies in the heart of a palm grove. Surya Samudra is just a few minutes from Vizhinjam and close to Kovalam and Trivandrum.

By Air: To Trivandrum from Delhi, Bombay, Madras, Bangalore, Colombo and London (on Gulf Airlines, Kuwait Airlines).

By Train: To Trivandrum from Delhi, Bombay, Cochin, Quilon, Madras and other towns, followed by a 30 minute drive.

By Road: An easy drive from the ‘backwaters’, Kanam and Cochin. A longer drive from Thekkady.

Transfers: The resort is happy to arrange limousine transfers (at extra cost) from either the airport or the railway station (both 22kms away) to / from the hotel.

Accommodation at Surya Samudra Beach Garden Resort comprises 21 rooms in 5 different categories. There are 10 twin rooms, 8 double rooms and 3 suites (bungalows)

3 Garden Bungalows – Large, spacious suites in stand alone cottages with a separate sitting room and private verandah. They all face directly out over the ocean and are very private. Original Malayali-style (Keralan) cottages. Open-air bathrooms.

7 Sea Front Rooms – Large rooms in stand alone cottages with private verandahs. They all face directly over the ocean. Traditional Malayali-style cottages. Open-air bathrooms.

4 A/C Garden Rooms – Smaller rooms in a block and modern in style. The only rooms with air-conditioning. They overlook and have have their own, small garden.

1 Garden House – A smaller room in a traditional Malayali-style cottage, set back on the hill, in the palm grove. Open air bathroom.

3 Small Beach Cottages – Simple, small, brick cottages with views of the ocean.

3 Garden View Cottages – Simple, small, brick cottages set back on the hill, in the palm grove and gardens.

17 of the rooms at Surya Samudra have overhead fans instead of air-conditioning. Hairdryers can be provided. They have tiled or wooden floors with rugs. All rooms have a wardrobe, direct dial telephones, tea and coffee making machines and a Mini bar. No smoking rooms are available.

The Malayali (Keralan) cottages are traditional ‘tharavads’ (Kerala houses) and have been acquired from various parts of Kerala and reassembled here in their original form. They are 150-200 years old and have literally been saved from being taken apart and used as fuel. The interiors are predominantly wood pillars and paneling. There are plenty of (glassless) windows which allow the free flow of air. All the cottages are located on elevated terraces and are interlinked by pathways.
