Chhatra Sagar is Situated just 2 ½ hours east of Jodhpur and 3 hours north of Deogarh, this idyllic haven comprises beautiful tents pitched on a dam, overlooking a lake teeming with birds.

Formerly the hunting preserve of the Nimaj estate, the circumference of the lake is 10 kms. The warm and welcoming Nimaj family are all personally involved in looking after guests and the tents are amongst the finest to be found in India. Due to its location, surrounded by farmland, the lake, hillocks and small villages, a stay at Chhatra Sagar allows its guests to experience rural Rajasthan in a way that few other properties allow you to.

Accessibility to Chhatra Sagar
By Air: To Jodhpur, from Delhi, Bombay, Jaipur, Udaipur, followed by a 2 hour car journey.
By Train: To Jodhpur, from Delhi, Bombay, Jaipur, Agra, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, followed by a 2 hour car journey.
By Road: An easy drive from Jodhpur, Khimsar, Nagaur, Manwar, Osian, Narlai, Ghanerao, Deogarh. A longer drive from Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Pushkar, Roopangarh, Udaipur, Jaipur.
Transfers: The hotel is happy to arrange transfers (at extra cost) from either the airport or the railway station to / from the hotel.

Accommodation at Chhatra Sagar is pitched to ensure privacy and all face directly onto the lake. Accommodation comprises 11 stunning tents. There are 6 twin bed tents and 5 double bed tents.

All the tents are the same at Chhatra Sagar. They have fans and are non-airconditioned. Heaters provided in colder months. They are spacious and prettily decorated and have comfortable, proper beds. They have electric light and excellent, modern, permanent, attached bathrooms (with showers and bathrobes). Each tent has its own private sit out overlooking the lake. Hair dryers can be provided on request. Hot water bottles are provided on particularly cold nights. Hot water is plentiful and provided by geyser. Two bottles of complimentary mineral water per person per day are provided. There is easy access for wheelchairs throughout the camp, as it is all on one, flat level.

 

Dining at Chhatra Sagar
There is one restaurant which offers delicious Indian cuisine using old family recipes made from vegetables which are mostly grown in the farm around the camp. The hotel offers a buffet and table d’hote dining. The restaurant is on the damn, under an open-sided tent so you can gaze across the lake whilst dining. The food served here is some of the finest Rajasthani home cooking in the state and the charming family ensure you want for nothing.

All meals, soft drinks, tea and coffee, and local excursions are included in the room rate. Private dining can be arranged.

When to visit/ Climate at Chhatra Sagar
Rajasthan has some major climactic fluctuations. During December, January and February, it can be cold in the mornings and evenings and warm clothes are necessary at these times. During the daytime it is lovely and warm and sunny. March and April are getting fairly hot and it begins to get humid in May and June and temperatures can rise to an intense and uncomfortable heat. The monsoon breaks in July and lasts until September. October and November are still warm but not cold or wet. The best time to visit is from October to March. It is generally a dry heat with very little humidity, except during the months of April, May, September and early October.

Opening and closing The camp is open from 1st October to 31st March each year.
